Petition for Davit Matevosian's release.

We demand that the government releases Davit Matevosyan, detained on the 1st of March, 2008 in Yerevan. He is incriminated in putting up resistance to the police. But in reality, Davit with others obeyed the command of the police officer and gave in, without any resistance. Anyway in the police station the eyewitness, a police officer, “testified” that the detainees resisted. The Court of First Instance at a closed session has decided to keep him in custody, until the rendition proceeding.

In reality he is arrested for actively supporting Levon Ter-Petrossian during the election campaign so he is a POLITICAL PRISONER!

Davit Matevosyan’s short biography.

1960 born in Karchevan /Marz of Syunik.

1982 graduated from Yerevan Agricultural Institute.
Worked at
1982-1983 Mine Constructing Department of Agarak
1983-1985 Meghry Irigating System
1985-1987 Sovkhoz of Karchevan, as a manager

In 1991 he was appointed the head of the regional office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with executive privileges of formation of the local army troops and management of the defense of his region.
In 1995 was elected as delegate at the National Assembly of Republic of Armenia. Since 1996 to 1998 he was appointed as the substitute of the head of Marz of Syunik.
1999-2000 was the manager of “HayAntar”.
Up to the present he was the manager of “QH” LLC.

Married, has 3 children.

During 2007 Davit Matevosyan was supporting the Impeachment bloc, and was a deputy candidate at the same bloc. On the 9th of May, 2007 during a peaceful race, near the building of National Security, he was beaten and harmed seriously by the police.
On 23rd of October 2007, during another peaceful race he was detained and kept at the police station for 9 hours. Before the last arrest on the 1st of March 2008, Davit Matevosyan took part in the protest since 20th of February till 1st of March. The demonstration was violently dispersed by the police under the pretext that peaceful protesters were armed and “dangerous”. All the leaders were arrested.

Now the emergency declared by president Qocharyan does not allow us to express our dissatisfaction with the political arrest of Davit Matevosyan, so we are asking you to help us free him, by joining this group.

PLEASE INVOLVE EVERYONE WHO IS AGAINST POLITICAL ARRESTS AND WISHES TO LIVE IN A FREE COUNTRY.
