The only heroes from March 1 are the policemen who died preventing those who wanted violence (from either "side") from becoming even more.

Other than that there were many victims, those who died, those who were injured, and the entire nation.

I think what anonymous meant to say is that the job of policemen in general is heroic, because it involves dangers of being hurt or even killed. A universal statement which is generally right for any country in the world.

However this universal statement combined with words like March 1, 2008, Yerevan, Armenia does not make any sense. What was heroic about dispersing sleepy protesters from the Liberty square and planting there fake iron bars? Even police's own investigators can not prove that they belonged to anyone from protesters. What is heroic about dispersing heated crowd hours later causing 8 official deaths? Even if one agrees that there were violent elements in the crowd, even if one believes falsified information of Armenian government TV, the only possible word explaining police actions is not heroic but UNPROFESSIONAL and BRUTAL. And why are the only heroes of March 1 are those policemen who died? What is heroic about them in particular compared to the rest of police. And what anonymous means by "violence from either side". Either side is a government whose job is to PROTECT its own citizens, even those who are against the government or are violent.
What I want to say is that if you anonymously trying to defend government actions, please consider using at least minimum knowledge, logic or common sense. Otherwise just shut up and don't litter blogospace.

At least in one instance a policeman was killed because he disobeyed the order of attacking the protesters.
He was shot on the back of his head in an execution manner.

No, I meant that the victims from among policemen who faced the violent crowd in front of the French Embassy - these are the only heroes from an otherwise sad day that lunatics from all sides keep trying to exploit for their petty gains.

Anonymous said...

anonymous, there's still no proof that any of the demonstrators were armed, which simply means that the actions of police that day were disproportionate, not heroic.

Anonymous said...

me - i have seen enough video to be confident that there were idiotic opposition leaders and protesters who wanted a fight.

enough for me. i don't need to rehash a1minus or pashinoghlu's hysterical banter.

rest in peace all the victims, and to the rest of the nation, move on.

Anonymous said...

No, it's irrelevant whether they wanted a fight or not. The crucial point is: were they armed with weapons? If not, then once again, for the exceptionally slow among us, the police/army had no right to open fire, and certainly tanks of the ARMENIAN army had no place being in the ARMENIAN capital fighting ARMENIAN citizens.

I think given the venom in the air, the crowds whipped into hysteria by the irresponsible pashinyan and the other nutcases, we are lucky there were only 10 or so deaths.

Hopefully the opposition learned something from this, but I doubt it. Levon needed a disaster like this to exploit peoples' martyr complexes and attempt to reinvent himself after his catastrophic rule in the 90s.

Hey Reflective--what happened to your moniker, and what's with the "anonymous"? Anyway, you're very recognizable by your curled-lip distain and your lack of having any new thoughts come into your head for months now.

Perhaps you should be asking your Republican pals and the police these questions--somehow they seem exceedingly reluctant to answer the questions. Don't you think that if they had any evidence at all affirming the beliefs that you cling to, it would have been out within hours?

Ani said...

P.S.: Sorry to have said "don't you think"--of course you don't think.

Anonymous said...

anonymous, do you have a problem with comprehending what you read? Unless the demonstrators were armed, the police and the army HAD NO RIGHT TO SHOOT, AND THEREFORE KILL ARMENIAN CITIZENS. They can't just go around shooting people every time they perceive hysteria in the air. What part of that is so hard to understand?

Even the Republican lawmakers who shamelessly insisted in the days after March 1st that Levon and the opposition were responsible for everything that transpired today have to admit that the use of force was disproportionate. Why you and others cling to this baseless notion is beyond me.

ani (why the plural?) - i note that you cannot write without an insult...

me - check out LA riots, philadelphia helicopter gunships vs drugdens etc. sad to say, happens all the time. governments act to prevent larger disaster. no need for ALL CAPS TO MAKE A WEAK POINT.

So, Reflective (which you didn't deny so therefore it's true), your point seems to be: Nervous, trigger-happy police (or whoever they were) used disproportionate force to quell a perceived but unverified threat.

That's your defense?????????? God help your muddled brain....Anyway, your president Serzh said they were only shooting at shoplifters (although why they were shooting shoplifters with tear-gas canisters hasn't been answered yet either). And why there was a "shoplifter" shot standing on his own balcony, well, I guess the investigation still has a bit of work to do?

History of the LA riots here:

You're sure you want to go with this line of reasoning?

re: LA riots and the Philly bombing.

These two are examples of the government treating the blacks. Do you really want the Armenian government to treat its citizens like the American government teats its black and Latino citizens?

For those who don't know these two cases:

1. The Philly bombing was a disproportionate response to a small group of black 'back to nature' MOVE activists in a house in a Philadelphia neighborhood. They were seen as a nuisance by the neighbors. When the police wanted them to leave, they didn't. Subsequently, the police dropped a bomb on the house burning down a whole city block and killing 11 people four of whom were children. The owners of the houses that were burned down have not yet been compensated (23 years later!). To quote from the article below: "It was a law enforcement failure so spectacular that it would not be equaled until the siege near Waco eight years later."

see: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-05-11-philadelphia-bombing_x.htm

2. The LA riots were caused by the brutal beating of Rodney King, a black motorist, by a group of white policement. The police were acquitted of any wrongdoing.
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodney_King

To conclude, only a fool will think that these two examples of are good policing.

another big diff between rodney king and king levon: rodney said "why can't we all get along" while king levonchik said "let's do what I do best: divide the armenian nation."

don't be ridiculous. You are "quoting" the none existent.
Anyway why do we pay too much attention to a 13 years old kid, who is dashnaktsakan because his father is one.

Anonymous said...

1st of all I am 12 not 13, and it is my mother who is Dashnak not my father. And it is "her" father, not "his" but otherwise you are pretty accurate, Moroneh.
