Մհեր Մանուկյանի և ՀԻՄԱ ռոք-խմբի համերգին տիրում էր ազատասիրություն

Մայիսի 27-ին ՀԻՄԱ երիտասարդական նախաձեռնությունը կազմակերպել էր ռոք-համերգ` Շարժման երգերի կատարմամբ: Այն տեղի ունեցավ «Մխիթար Սեբաստացի» կրթահամալիրի «Մեդիա» մշակութային կենտրոնում: Համերգին նվագում էին ՀԻՄԱ-ի տաղանդավոր երաժիշտ-ակտիվիստները, իսկ գլխավոր հերոսը Շարժման բազմաթիվ երգերի հեղինակ ու կատարող Մհեր Մանուկյանն էր:

Համերգը գրավել էր ազատ մտքին ու խոսքին հավատացող քաղաքացիներին: Մեկը մյուսի ետեւից կատարվեցին անցած տարվա գարնանից պարբերաբար հրապարակվող երգերը` «Մեկ գումարած մեկ», «Երգ հոգեխանգարմունքի», «Երկրի հակառակ կողմից», «Ես էլ», «Ձոն գարնանամուտի», «Ջահել ազատության երգը», «Մենք ժպտում ենք», ինչպես նաև Մհեր Մանուկյանի «նախաշարժումային» երգերից: Համերգին տիրող մթնոլորտը ակամայից ստիպում էր յուրաքանչյուրին թռչել ժամանակի միջով դեպի 2008-ի նախընտրական քարոզարշավ, փետրվարի 19 եւ 20, դրան հաջորդած համապետական հանրահավաքային Շարժում, մարտի մեկ եւ այդ ամենը վերապրած ու չշղթայվող Ոգու վերածնունդ: Ամեն կատարումը Շարժման մի դրվագ էր արտացոլում: Բեմից հնչածը լոկ երգ չէր. այն մի ամբողջ ազատատենչ ժողովրդի երազների ու հույսերի խտացումն էր:

Համերգին յուրահատուկ շունչ էր հաղորդում դահլիճում գտնվող մանուկների ազատությունը: Այդ երեխաների համար չկային սահմաններ: Նրանք ամբողջությամբ հենվում էին իրենց ամենաբնական ցանկության` ազատ լինելու վրա: Մեր երկրի ապագան հենց նրանցն է` ազատության շունչն ու բույրը զգացած ու այն ապրած մանուկներինը: Այսօր մենք ենք կրում մեր երկրի ազատությունը կերտելու ու պահելու բեռը, իսկ վաղը` նրանք: Մեր երկրի ապագան պատկանում է նրանց, ովքեր հավատում են իրենց ազնիվ բնազդին, չեն սպանում, չեն խեղդում, այլ թողում են, որ այն բոցկլտա ու տարածվի: Որովհետեւ հենց այդ բնազդն է ընկած մարդկային շատ ու շատ գործողությունների հիմքում, հանճարի ու ստեղծագործության հիմքում: Որովհետեւ միայն այդ բնազդի արտահայտմամբ կա զարգացում, կա շարժում ու կա կյանք: Ազատության խեղդումը ծնում է միաձեւություն, հայացքի եւ տեսլականի կորուստ, ծնում է անմարդկային մարդիկ: Հենց ազատության ճնշումն է, որ ծնում է հոգեխանգարմունք եւ ո'չ դրա սնուցումը:

Երգն է Ազատությունը: Երգն Ազատության երազն ու կանչն է, մի ամբողջ Շարժման կրքի ու կրակի մարմնավորում: Եվ ինչպես երգը, այնպես էլ ազատությունը չի լինում կուսակցական: Չկա աջակողմյան ու ձախակողմյան, չկա կոմունիստական ու կապիտալիստական ազատություն: Կա միայն մեկ բնատուր եւ ի ծնե տրված Ազատություն: Ազատությունը ծնվում է քո մեջ ու տարածվում է քո միջից: Այն երբեք չի կարող լինել մակերեւութային, որովհետեւ մակերեւութային ազատությունը ազատություն չէ. այն բովանդակազուրկ է: Որովհետեւ Ազատությունը հենց բովանդակություն է: Այն հավատ է: Ազատությունը հիմք է եւ օդ: Ազատությունը պայքար է:

Մեր պայքարը հենց Ազատության պայքար է:

Drive-in Church

I have always found the car-centric lifestyle choices of the Americans to be fascinating. Bizarre ideas like drive-thru fast food joints are case in point. Even more bizarre are drive-thru banks or pharmacies. I've also seen drive-thru lumber yards and heard about drive-thru liquor stores in Texas. And what can be more romantic than getting married by Elvis in a drive-thru church in Vegas?

I only use drive-thru ATM machines if a regular ATM machine is not available nearby: I think drive-thru is a great waste of resources and a major polluter. But if you think drive-thru is bad, imagine the drive-in. There used to be time when there were drive-in cinemas, grocery stores and churches. Imagine, sitting in a field watching a movie among the dirty exhaust fumes of at least 100 cars (these old car exhaust fumes stink big time). A short lived drive-in concept were the fly-in cinemas. basically, you would fly your airplane to a cinema, park your plane and then rent a car to drive-in to the cinema nearby. Why would anyone do that is beyond me.

What I find hilarious are the drive-in churches. they still exist today (the other drive-in concepts have mostly gone extinct). And then I imagine the faces of the Armenian religious nuts if someone tries to import that idea to Armenia. As things stand, anything that is not Armenian Apostolic Church is a cult to them.

Just imagine the angry red faces and the rhetoric about 'high technology hunt for souls'.

Raccoons.

Looks like something positive can come out of Google ads on this blog.

The Google ads, which were placed here as an experiment to see who was advertising what, have yielded mostly ads to meet Armenian girls. Recently there were some Turkish ads. I followed one - it was mainly about the Meds Yeghern denial. But one link about culture sent me to a Turkish cuisine site with recipes.

I like Turkish food. The only downside is that it is usually catered by people of Turkish origin and since I don't like my hard earned monies supporting anything Turkish, I abstain from patronizing these establishments.

Well, now I can cook those dishes at home.

Going downhill... fast.

Things seem to be getting worse in Georgia by the day. Since the violent dispersal of protests last year, and especially since the catastrophic faux pas in South Ossetia, things are getting uglier in our Northern neighbor.

And now something completely different.

Թամամյանի մոտ։ Վերջինս վկային գործարքի առաջարկ է արել. նույնությամբ կրկնել նախաքննության շրջանում իրենց կորզված կեղծ ցուցմունքները, ինչի դիմաց խոստացել է բաց թողնել վկայի՝ 5 տարվա ազատազրկման դատապարտված եղբորը։ Հակառակ դեպքում սպառնացել է, թե ՙվատ կլինի՚ եւ անձամբ վկայի, ե՜ւ կալանավայրում գտնվող նրա եղբոր, եւ նրա ընտանիքի անդամների համար։ Դրանով իսկ Քրեական հետախուզության գլխավոր վարչության պետը հանցանք է գործել, ինչի որակումը թողնում ենք ՀՀ Գլխավոր դատախազությանը։

Հայ Ազգային Կոնգրեսը, դատապարտում է վկաների նկատմամբ գործադրված ճնշումների այս խայտառակ փաստերը, եւս մեկ անգամ արձանագրում, որ վարչախումբը ամեն օր այս կերպ հայ եւ միջազգային հանրությանը ցուցադրում է իր կրիմինալ դեմքը, ավազակային գործելակերպը, խայտառակում իրավապահ մարմիններին եւ ողջ հանրապետությունը։ Ինչպես փլուզվեց 7-ի գործը, այնպես էլ փլուզվելու է նրանցից յուրաքանչյուրի անջատված գործերը` մեկ պարզ պատճառով. դրանք բոլորը իրական որեւէ հիմք չունեն։ Հանցագործները այդ գործերը սարքողներն են եւ այսօր վկաների նկատմամբ բռնարարքների հեղինակները, որոնք եւ անպայման մի օր կանգնելու են իրական արդարադատության առջեւ։

On Branding.

Branding: A brand is an identifiable entity that makes specific promises of value. It's about creating and communicating this set of values by the owner.

Eurovision should be a another dimension of branding, not an avenue to air grievances.
But, what is the 'Armenia' brand? What does 'Armenia' mean to a lay person in Europe? Before you promote your brand, you need to know what it is. Here are some examples of strong brands.

Switzerland: Beautiful mountains, great chocolate, classy watches, strong banking.
Coca-Cola: The best pop to have.
USA: The American dream, liberty, world leader, the good guys.

I am still trying to work out what the 'Armenia' brand is. For the past year it has become to mean a dictatorship but that's not what you want to be known as. We, the Armenians are the brand owners of 'Armenia' and specifically the citizens of Armenia as they are the ones who have an organized state to take care of issues important to the Armenians through pooled resources. And the pool is the sum of the efforts of each of us.

Eurovision is over.

Thankfully, the song contest of Eurovision is over. It's a 'contest' that's supposed to bring the Europeans together. When I lived in Europe, I could not stand to watch the thing for more than a few minutes; I've never been a big fan of pop music like that.

The latest twist is the inclusion of the former Eastern block countries. Since these countries have unresolved issues and are new to Europe, they get their knickers twisted in the wind. So their entries are very political. Instead of following the goal of 'bringing Europe together', they use the contest as another channel to air their grievances. This year the Georgian entry was banned because the song itself was anti-Russian. The rest of the songs were not so explicitly anti-something so they passed the censorship.

Apparently, though, there was still some controversy. The Armenian blogosphere on LiveJournal is in uproar. I don't know what happened but there must have been something that displeased the people in Armenia.

I wonder what it was - in one or two sentences :)

On a lighter note.

I was just watching a 'Married... with Children' episode when the Bundy clan had a vacation in the meat department of their local supermarket. I've been fond of that show since the early 90-s and it still cracks me up whenever I watch it.

My guess is, given the economic situation, some families will indeed take a weekend getaway to the local mall or somewhere air conditioned to save on the energy bill. A lot of the people will not take any vacations this year fearing that they would lose their jobs. The Americans already work a lot more than the Europeans but this year they are going to be even more stressed out. I don't think we have a clinical cause of death for karōshi like the japanese do - maybe it's time to introduce it.

Tightening the Noose.

Just look at these headlines from Radio Liberty. It's quite a vivid illustration of the Azri-Turkish plan to tighten the noose around Armenia. Basically, the next step for them is to have Turkey as part of the Minsk Group. That's what you get when you have a little dictator engaging in things way beyond his mental capacity. His team of intellectual midgets is not much help either.

The new minister of education in Armenia.

Armen Ashotian - an outspoken Republican MP fond of cursing and explaining things through analogies with sexual acts and private parts. A devout Christian who wants to build a church on the parliament grounds. Lobbied for censorship of entertainment programs on TV for being in bad taste.

I want to wish good luck to the kids in the country. With such a boss, they need all the luck they can get.

Hayots Ashkharh.

Sometimes I get a feeling that Hayots Ashkharh is the Armenian version of Fox News. Golos Armenii comes close but it's in Russian.

On Freedom of Speech.

A couple of days ago the UK government published a list of persona non grata - a list containing the names of a number of Muslim people. To pretend that the target are not the Muslims, they also put two Americans on that list. Banning people from entering the country is a sovereign right of any state. For example, the US does requires long interviews for people who want to visit, people are often expelled, etc.

So last night on my way home I tuned in to an AM radio station (yes, they still exist). In the US, the am frequency is usually occupied by small radio stations broadcasting talk shows. The vast majority of them are political shows with a few sports channels mixed in. The political shows are inhabited by conservatives ranging from mildly insane to crackpots. I think Rush Limbaugh lurks on AM radio as well.

The particular talk show I came across was not Limbaugh. It was a man who had two female co-hosts. In 5 minutes he managed to insult the females (by suggesting that their place is in the kitchen), the French (they spend the most time eating and sleeping because they are lazy), the Japanese (they manage to drink a lot every day) and the French again (they are lazy socialists). The female co-hosts would occasionally make approving comments on what he said. But the spigots opened when he started ranting about the Brits banning a fellow conservative wingnut Michael Savage. he is one of the two people banned from entering the UK because of his hateful speech.

In five minutes this radio personality managed to use the following propaganda techniques:
- name calling;
- transfer;
- false analogy;
- either/or fallacy;
- faulty cause and effect.

That's one heck of a list. For someone who has been trained for critical thinking, recognizing these fallacies is easy. But given the popularity of such shows among a certain segment of the population, my guess is that either they do not see these problems when they listen, or are quite comfortable with it as long as all kinds of lefties and other undesirable people are bashed.

While listening to this was not very pleasant (some say that this is entertainment only), I had a choice of tuning back to my FM radio stations and listen to whatever I liked at the moment. That's what I call freedom of speech - they are free to speak but I have no obligation to listen.

Stimulate the Economy, Buy a Burger.

Obama and Biden got a burger yesterday for lunch. It became news - they actually had cash on them and knew how to pay for things (what comes to mind is Bush Senior's ignorance about the existence of checkout lanes in a supermarket [so this is where the food comes from...]). Here is a quote from CSM:
