The Cypriot High Court has ruled in favor of AGBU regarding the melkonian School closure.

Radio Liberty reports that the appellate court in Nicosia, Cyprus, has ruled in favor of AGBU in the Melkonian School closure case. I want to remind my readers that AGBU is the trustee of Melkonian School in Nicosia. A few years ago AGBU closed it citing financial difficulties. For years there were suspicions among the Armenian community in Cyprus that the Melkonian brothers' trust fund had been mismanaged. After the school closure several committees were created by the alumni and some documents came to light that showed that AGBU does not own the school but is a trustee and the Armenian Apostolic Church has a say in the fate of the school. AGBU still insists that it owns the school and can act unilaterally. You may read more abut the case and the background on the Save Melkonian site.

Here is the text of the RFE/RL article. Pay particular attention to the words of Masis Der-Partogh where he makes a reference about some people being able to line up their pockets both in Diaspora and in Armenia. Who these people are, one can only guess. People who have stake in the sale are AGBU, the church in Ejmiatzin and, by extension, some officials in Armenia.

The lands are worth 80 Million USD. Enough for some people to retire in luxury. Out of that 80 Million they will spend 1 million in opening a summer camp in Armenia give 1 million to All Armenian Fund, fund vartan Oskanian and Kocharian in the next parliamentary and presidential ellections as gratitude for their assistance and then retire or die happily as they managed to accomplish a task that they were trying from 80s. The ironic thing is that it is written that AGBU doesnt own the property but has to manage it. This is teh same as Russians sell Armenian Nuclear Powers station which they manage but dont own.
All of this was politics and money. This is teh begining to the end of the Armenian Diaspora.

Ah I forgot the Catholicos, I guess his cut will be enough for lifetime vodka and accommodation in cheap hotels in Yerevan.
The property will be sold in one go as there was a buyer 3 years ago. I wonder what will happen to the graves of Melkonian brothers? Probably they will be bulldozed and dumped. Very Turkish.

Well, I don't know if you know this, but the Armenian Church sold an Armenian graveyard in Nicosia to developers. These graves were subsequently bulldozed until the government stepped in to stop the vandalism. The church promised to relocate and rebury the remains but nothing was done. I wonder if the car park they were planning to build there has been built yet.

And then we condemn Azeris for what they did in Old-Jugha. I have been in that old Armenian cemetary in 98 and ther were graves dating back 19 centuary. It was the last remaining history of Armenian in Cyprus.
It is all about money. This reminded my Pushkin's words about Armenians:
"Ti rab, ti troos, ti Armyanin". Very true in most of the cases.

Haik, unfortunately the Armenian Church is one of the anchors of Armenianness in Diaspora. In Armenia, the same behavior by the church representatives is the reason that the population does not respect these supposed beacons of morality (with very few exceptions like Pargev Kahana of Artsakh). Do you think that these moneys will supply the Catholicos young boys in addition to the vodka and accomodation in those cheap Yerevan hotel rooms?

What angers me is that the community in Cyprus will still go to church and give money to these f*kers after what they did to the remains of our ancestors because they have no other venues to congregate. The political parties are not an alternative because they are divisive, and the social events are organized by these same political parties.
