Ես` Նիկոլ Փաշինյանս, այսօր ժամը 18.00-ին Երեւանի Ազատության հրապարակում նստացույց եմ սկսում, շուրջօրյա նստացույց։







Ես հասկանում եմ, որ ոմանք սա կգնահատեն որպես հուսահատ քայլ։ Բայց այս որոշումը կայացնելուց առաջ երկար եմ մտածել, եւ իմ արածը ոչ թե հուսահատ քայլ է, այլ քայլ է ընդդեմ հուսահատության։ Այն հուսահատության, որ մարդուն ստիպել է երկրի քաղաքացու, երկրի իշխանավորի իր իրավունքը զիջել մեկ-երկու հանցագործի։ Սա նաեւ հույսի, լավատեսության ակցիա է, եւ իրականացումը այն խոստման, որ չենք համակերպվելու այս իրավիճակի հետ, եւ մեզնից կախված ամենը անելու ենք մեր երազած երկիրը մեր երեխաներին ժառանգելու համար։ Այս քայլի նպատակը հստակ է. նախապատրաստել ուրբաթ օրը նույն Ազատության հրապարակում կայանալիք հանրահավաքը, որը շատ կարեւոր է լինելու մեր երկրի ապագայի տեսանկյունից։ Նստացույցի ժամանակ իմ գլխավերեւում ոչ մի կոչ կամ կամ պահանջ չի լինելու։ Ընդամենը փակցված է լինելու A4 ֆորմատի մի թուղթ, որի վրա գրված է լինելու «1+»։ Մեր նախորդ հանրահավաքից առաջ ինչ-որ մեկը նման ցուցանակ էր փակցրել Թումանյանի արձանի պատվանդանի վրա, եւ ես ուզում եմ շարունակել այդ մարդու սկսած գործը` որի փակցրած թուղթը ինչ-որ մարդիկ հետո պոկել էին։ Ինչ եմ ես ուզում այս քայլով. ուզում եմ, որ ՀՀ քաղաքացիները, որոնք հասկանում են երկրում ստեղծված իրավիճակի վտանգավորությունը իրենց հետ վերցնելով «1+» գրառմամբ A4 ֆորմատի թուղթ գան Ազատության հրապարակ, եւ դրանք փակցնեն արդեն իսկ այնտեղ գտնվող թղթերի կողքին` ի նշան այն բանի, որ իրենք չեն պատրաստվում համակերպվել իշխանության կողմից պարտադրվող իրականության հետ, որ իրենք մասնակցելու են ուրբաթ օրը կայանալիք հանրահավաքին, որովհետեւ պատրաստ են կրել երկրի ապագայի համար իրենց ունեցած պատասխանատվությունը, պատրաստ են պայքարի դուրս գալ ընդդեմ բեսպրեդելի։ Եւ մենք կփորձենք «1+1+1+1» բանաձեւով պատել ողջ Ազատության հրապարակը, ողջ Երեւանը, ողջ Հայաստանը, այս պայմանագրի մասնակից դարձնելով ՀՀ յուրաքանչյուր քաղաքացու։ Իսկ նստացույցի բուն իմաստը այդ «1+» գրառումներով թղթերը հսկելն է` որպեսզի դրանք փակցրած մարդկանց գնալուց հետո «1+»-ները հատ հատ չպոկվեն եւ չտարվեն Ազատության հրապարակից։ Այսինքն, իրականում ես ոչ թե նստացույց եմ անելու, այլ երկու օր ու գիշեր հսկելու եմ այդ թղթերը, մինչեւ որ դրանց տերերը, դրանց հեղինակները ուրբաթ օրը, ժամը 19-ին վերադառնան Ազատության հրապարակ` շարունակելու պայքարը եւ այդ թղթիկները իրենց հետ իրենց տները, բակերը, թաղամասերը տանելու։ Հիմա քաղաքական առաջիկա շրջափուլի նպատակի մասին։ Խորհրդարանական ընտրությունները կեղծվել են, կեղծվել են լկտի կերպով։ Ընդ որում, կեղծիքը սկսվել է դեռեւս նախորդ տարվանից, կեղծիքները ահագնացել են քարոզչության շրջանում, իսկ քվեարկության ընթացքում տեղի է ունեցել պետական հեղաշրջում։ Կեղծ անձնագրերի մասին վերլուծության հիմնավոր լինելը շատ արագ կարելի է ապացուցել եւ եթե իշխանությունը համոզված է, որ այդպես չէ թող համարձակություն ունենա մեզ տրամադրել մայիսի 12-ին քվեարկությանը մասնակցած անձանց անունները` ըստ տեղամասերի, 2003 թվականի ՀՀ ԱԺ ընտրություններից հետո մինչեւ 2007 թվականի մայիսի 9-ը Հայաստանից դուրս եկած եւ վերադարձած քաղաքացիների անունները, 2003 թվականի ԱԺ ընտրություններից մինչեւ 2007 թվականի մայիսի 9-ը մահացած ՀՀ քաղաքացիների անունները։ Ահա այս տվյալներն ունենալուց հետո մենք շատ արագ կապացուցենք, թե ինչ հիվանդությամբ է հիվանդ այս իշխանությունը, եւ այդ հիվանդության բուժումը մեկն է։ Բայց մեծ հաշվով, խնդիրը ոչ թե այն է, որ իշխանությունը կեղծել է այս ընտրությունների արդյունքները, այլ այն, որ ստեղծել է «ընտրություններով» վերարտադրվելու հավերժական մեխանիզմ, եւ այդ մեխանիզմը սպասարկող հավերժական բանաձեւ։ Մեր իշխանավորները` Սերժի եւ Ռոբերտի գլխավորությամբ, չորս տարի թալանով փող են աշխատում, վերջին մեկ տարում այդ թալանած փողերի մի մասը ծախսում վերարտադրվելու համար։ Ընդ որում, վերջին փորձը ցույց տվեց, որ իշխանության հովանու ներքո մշտապես գործում են խմբեր, որոնք զբաղված են ընդամենը մեկ հարցով. ընտրությունները կեղծելու մեխանիզմների կատարելագործմամբ։ Եւ հիմա պրոբլեմը ոչ թե նա է, որ ընտրությունները կեղծվել են, կամ այն, որ հաջորդ ընտրություններն են կեղծվելու, այլ այն, որ այս պրոցեսը կարող է հավերժ շարունակվել։ Եթե մենք սպասենք մինչեւ հաջորդ, հաջորդ ընտրությունները, ամեն անգամ քվեարկությունից հետո ունենալու ենք այն զգացողությունը, որ ունեցել ենք մայիսի լույս 13-ի գիշերը։ Եւ հիմա քաղաքական խնդիրը հետեւյալն է` պետք է շարունակել սկսված շարժումը, եւ այդ շարժման նպատակը պետք է լինի մինչեւ առաջիկա նախագահական ընտրությունները Սերժ Սարգսյանին եւ Ռոբերտ Քոչարյանին իշխանությունից զրկելը։ Եւ այսօր մենք պետք է հենց այս փուլի հիմքը դնենք։ Բայց այս շարժումը սկսելուց առաջ մենք մի քանի կարեւոր արձանագրումներ պետք է անենք. Քոչարյան-Սարգսյանը զույգի իշխանությունը հիմնված է ՀՀ քաղաքացիների, քաղաքական գործիչների փոխադարձ ատելության վրա։ Քոչարյան-Սարգսյան զույգը հենց սրա վրա էլ կառուցում է իր իշխանությունը, եւ դա անում է մարդկանց իրար դեմ հանելով։ Իսկ մարդկանց իրար դեմ հանում է շատ պարզ եղանակով` ամեն ինչ անում է, որ բոլորը բոլորին ծախված համարեն։ Մինչեւ հիմա այս բանաձեւը իրականացվում էր քաղաքական գործիչների, լրագրողների, մտավորականների մեջ, հիմա այդ նույն պրոցեսը ավելի լայն տարածում է ստացել։ Ու հիմա քիչ էր, որ ժողովուրդը քաղաքական գործիչներին էր ծախված համարում, քաղաքական գործիչները լրագրողներին, լրագրողները մտավորականներին եւ հակառակը, այս ընտրություններում իշխանությունը նման իմիջ ձեւակերպեց նաեւ ժողովրդի համար։ Այս ամենը, իհարկե, ցավալի է, որովհետեւ այս մեխանիզմի ձեւավորման գործում մենք բոլորս օգնել ենք իշխող զույգին։ Եկեք խոստովանենք, որ մենք բոլորս ներգրավված ենք արատավոր այս շղթայի մեջ։ Եւ հիմա, վերջին օրերի մասին խորհելով մտածում եմ` ի՞նչ պետք է աներ այն խեղճ գյուղացին, որին առաջարկվում էր փող կամ հաշվեհարդար։ Կարող էր դիմել քաղաքական գործիչների, լրագրողների, մտավորականների. բայց այդ խեղճ գյուղացին համոզվել է, որ նրանք էլ նույն իրավիճակի դերակատարներ եւ զոհեր են։ Կարճ ասած, մենք բոլորս մեր ուսերին այնքան մեղք ու անպաշտպանություն ունենք, որ դժվար է անգամ պատկերացնել։ Բայց խնդիրը բոլորովին այլ է` արդյոք այդ մեղքը եւ անպաշտպանությունը ժառանգում ենք մեր երեխաներին, այնպես ինչպես մեր պապերն են իրենց մեղքը մեզ ժառանգել։ Միթե մենք թույլ ենք տալիս, որ մեր զավակների յոթ սերունդ պատժի եւ անեծքի տակ ապրի։ Եւ եթե թույլ չենք տալիս, ի՞նչ պետք է անենք։ Հենց այս համատեքստում էլի ուզում եմ խոսել քաղաքական Զատիկի մասին։ Մենք այսօր իսկապես մեր մեղքերից, քաղաքական ու քաղաքացիական մեղքերից մաքրվելու անհրաժեշտություն ունենք։ Մենք` ՀՀ բոլոր քաղաքացիներս պետք է մաքրվենք, ներենք իրար եւ ի նշան այդ ներման դուրս գանք հրապարակ եւ մաքրենք մեր ամոթի ու խայտառակության կենդանի խարանը` այն իրավիճակը, այն իշխանությունը, այն բարոյականությունը, որ այսօր հաստատվել է Հայաստանում։ Եւ այսօր ես հույս ունեմ հազարավոր մարդկանց ներումը ստանալ եւ հազարավոր մարդկանց համար ներվելու ու ներելու հնարավորություն ստեղծել։ Ես հույս ունեմ, որ ուրբաթ օրվա հանրահավաքը կդառնա այդ ներման եւ կամքի վճռական վկայությունը։ Հույս ունեմ հանրահավաքին կմասնակցեն բոլոր ընդդիմադիր քաղաքական ուժերի այդ թվում եւ «Օրինաց երկրի», «Ժառանգության», «Նոր ժամանակների», ՀԺԿ-ի, «Ազգային միաբանության», «Հանրապետության» լիդերները։ Նաեւ ուզում եմ իմ քաղաքական պայքարի ընկերների ներումը հայցել, որ իրենք այս հրապարակումից են տեղեկանում այս ակցիայի մասին։ Ես հույս ունեմ, որ այս անակնկալը նրանց եւս մեկ անգամ կհամոզի, որ մեր կամքը անսասան է, ազատության հաղթանակը անխուսափելի։



ՆԻԿՈԼ ՓԱՇԻՆՅԱՆ

The Armenian police brutality: another example.

This is a picture of Levon Gulian, 31, with his children. He was killed on May 9, 2007 while being questioned by the police in the police headcourters in Yerevan. The police are accused of killing him and then throwing his body out of a second floor window. The official press release said that he had died while trying to escape from the second floor window. Levon Gulian was a witness who had gone to the police station by himself as a witness to provide details of a murder that had happened next to the restaurant where he was a general manager.



The Prosecutors' office has launched an investigation into Gulian's 'suicide'.



Only the naive doubt that there is police brutality in Armenia. It is an Armenian custom to beat the crap out of people to gain a confession. The cops have a duty to show a certain percentage of solved crimes and they have to reach that percentage or face dismissal. The easiest thing to do is to find a fall guy and torture him until he confesses. The courts then rubber stamp the police investigation and the poor guy is sent to jail - imprisoned but alive.



Uzogh says that no matter how much I use the term 'banana republic', it will not make Armenia a banana republic. If this is not what a banana republic means then I don't know what is.

Banana republic: the 'elections' are over.

Looks like the elections are over in my native banana republic of Armenia and they were free and unfair. I do not know about the extent of ballot stuffing and voter number falsifications (these are usually a secret as they are done in the dark when the electricity to the locations where the counting takes place is turned off for a few minutes). The results are as predicted by President Kocharian; he is either a major psychic gifted with omniscience, or it was all designed beforehand.



Even if all the numbers quoted by the Central Electoral Commission are reflective of the reality, it is obvious that Armenia is far from being a country where I would want to live. The main tool of this election was massive vote buying. People sold their future for up to $50 a head. There were some reports of the leading parties, in particular Dodi Gago's 'Prosperous Armenia', stiffing their voters and not giving the money but overall I think they kept their word. I don't know if this qualifies as 'trickle down' distribution of wealth but one thing is sure: there will be a barbeque boom for the next week. In addition to the pot bellied officials having feasts to celebrate their victory, the ordinary folk will be able to buy some meat and enjoy a nice meal.



As for the opposition, I think they are demoralized as I think they still have not grasped the game they are in. It looked like they did not have a plan after had lost. The next protest they want to hold is this Friday; by then it will be too late to achieve anything as everybody will have forgotten about the farce that was the elections.

Fascist state.

Uzogh has posted (uzogh.livejournal.com/70032.html?view=665744#t665744) an article from The Guardian which describes how the Bush system in the US resembles a fascist state. For fun, I wanted to apply the ten tests to the Armenian reality.



1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy

Rightfully, Turkey is a terrifying external enemy that has attempted to wipe us out in the past. The internal enemy is the previous administration.



2. Create a gulag

This one I am not quite sure of but the detention centers at the KGB and the police that hold the political prisoners without trial may qualify as such.



3. Develop a thug caste

The hastaglukh and hastaviz (thick headed and thick necked) thugs used by the authorities to suppress any dissent are the thug caste in Armenia. The 'special forces' from Karabagh that are routinely used to beat up protestors are the more professional thugs.



4. Set up an internal surveillance system

One has no guarantee that his/her telephone and other conversations are not being monitored and recorded. The recent Artur Baghdasarian conversation (mentioned in an earlier blog) is a proof of that.



5. Harass citizens' groups

This is a favorite pastime of the authorities in Armenia as well. The closing of the Jarangutyun offices, confiscation of computers, etc. are just one example of it.



6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release

4 people were detained during the May 9 rally and then released. No need to say more.



7. Target key individuals

Alexandr Arzumanian's arrest is the latest example of this.



8. Control the press

The last independent TV station, A1, was closed 6 years ago.



9. Dissent equals treason

This seems to be the favorite label affixed to any person with different views, and is quite popular with the Dashnaks when referring to the liberals.



10. Suspend the rule of law

What law?

KGB beats up peaceful protestors in Armenia.

The Armenian blogosphere is abuzz with the KGB attack on the peaceful protestors of Impeachment, New Times and Republic Party in front of the KGB building in Yerevan, Armenia. They were protesting the arrest of such political prisoners Alexander Arzumanian and Jirayr Sefilian who are being held in the KGB basement.



There were a few people beaten up by the KGB troops, among whom was my friend Mher, and a few people were arrested as well.

USA the Banana Republic

The right to elect is an old right for the white males, somewhat of a new right for the females and a new right for the blacks in the US. Since there is a tradition of holding elections since the first days of the republic, I am still amazed with the incompetence of the staff responsible for them. Even banana republics are capable of better processes.

Handicapped Marine Veteran Kept From Voting


Voters In 5 Marion County Precincts Turned Away

INDIANAPOLIS -- The first vote under a new Democratic regime at the Marion County Clerk's Office was wrought with problems during the primary election Tuesday, including the disenfranchising of numerous voters -- among them, a handicapped Marine veteran.



Republicans called the primary a travesty after as many as 100 precincts opened late and five didn't open at all, 6News' Norman Cox reported.



County clerk Beth White apologized profusely for the problems, but nothing was done to give those who didn't get a chance to vote at all another opportunity.
Jesus Quintana Jr., a Marine veteran who lost the use of his legs in Vietnam, drove his handicapped van to his polling place, only to find it locked. A voting machine was inside, but no one was there.



"It sucks. That's all I can say, you know?" Quintana said. "We come to vote and we vote all the time and this is where we come to vote at."



White said about 150 inspectors, the people legally required to open polling places, failed to show up.



There were also mechanical problems, such as keys that were not delivered to unlock machines.



"I cannot believe this. This is 2007, right?" said Linda Swanigan, who could not vote.



White took full responsibility for the problems and said she would do better in November. She suggested that any candidate can contest the election and that disenfranchised voters can file a civil suit. She decided not to keep polls open past 6 p.m.



"We feel terrible about that," White said. "I understand suing us is an empty remedy, but if they have a right of action, they can think about it."



Republicans did nothing to take a stand for disenfranchised voters, Cox reported. County chairman Tom John sharply criticized White, whom he called Mayor Bart Peterson's handpicked choice for clerk, but he said a move to allow the five precincts another day to vote would have to come from Peterson and White.

Alexander Arzumanian has been arrested.

Radio Liberty reports that Alexander Arzumanian, a member of the 'Civil Disobediance' group, has been arrested. He is a suspect in an alleged money laundering scheme that the Armenian KGB is investigating.



The pre-election repressions go on in Armenia. The authorities in this banana republic are sowing the seeds of a color revolution.

The KGB is upping the harassment of the opposition.

The Armenian KGB has raided the residences and offices of former foreign minister Alexander Arzumanian, and the residence of former infrastructure minister Vahan Shirkhanian. Alexander Arzumanian is involved in the current electoral process as a member of the ‘Civil Disobedience’ group which advocates the replacement of the current authorities. Vahan Shirkhanian is not openly involved in any political movements.



A1+ reports that the reason for the searches is article 190 which deals with the laundering of money. Had this not been Armenia, one might have taken the charges seriously. But since we are talking about an authoritarian banana republic, it is quite obvious that all this is done to harass the opposition prior to the elections. One needs to remember that there are still quite a few political prisoners in Armenia, such as Jirayr Sefilian, that are imprisoned with trumped up charges.

New Armenian language blogs.

Հայկական բլոգերի լրաքաղ informs us that there are two brand new Armenian language blogs: A1+ blog and E-channel blog.



I have checked the A1+ blog and it looks good. There are even a couple of comments by the famous Vahe Avetian.



One story I liked was the revelation of yet another election bribery; the supporters of the ruling elite organize the funerals of the potential voters. As a form of gratitude, the clan of the dead person cast their votes according to the instructions received. Indeed, the corrupt nature of the Armenian nation does not recognize any limits.



I still haven't had time to check the E-channel blog.

Election campaign or 'The Sopranos'?

Yet another whacking has occured in Yerevan. A criminal persona Samvel Shahverdian, a.k.a. ‘Mergeliani Samvelik’ (in English it translates to “Li’l Samvel from Mergelian”), has been whacked. The detectives have found ten casings and one bullet from the area. Mr. Shahverdian has reportedly been hit by 8 bullets. Some sources say that he was killed in front of his father who was with him at the time. He died on his way to the hospital in the ambulance.



This would be a regular gangland murder if Mr. Shahverdian was not involved in politics. He reportedly has done some favors for the ruling HHK and Tsarukian’s BHK parties. It remains to be seen whether this murder was politically motivated or was done to settle scores.



In Armenia it is difficult to distinguish these two motives nowadays; the criminal entities are closely involved with the ruling HHK and are used to intimidate the voters and the opposition parties. As a reward they are given a free reign in their economic activities.
