Dumping .am

Following the declaration of a state of emergency on March 01, 2008, the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has requested ISOC AM to temporarily suspend certain domain names.

This is what you come across when you access AMNIC - the trustee for the ".am" domain names. I would suggest anyone who has a .am domain to dump it and switch to a ".com" or a ".net"/".org" suffix. No matter how much I criticize the US, the chances of such a thing happening without a court order and based solely on the whim of the CIA, FBI or police in the US are extremely slim so the ".com" should be safe to have.

It has been amazing how docile the different organizations and individuals are in Armenia. As soon as Kocharian declared the state of emergency, everyone except a few stopped talking. I would assume that the atmosphere or fear is strong in Armenia; through the last 10 years Kocharian has managed to silence dissent among the larger population through terror and corruption.

This is not the kind of Armenia we had in mind when we were fighting the Soviets.

AMNIC has discredited the .am domain extension. If I were to get an Armenia related domain, I would certainly avoid getting a .am domain name since it can arbitrarily be wiped out. If you have one, I would suggest dumping it. When you hit their pockets, that's when they realize what they have done.

Предложение о том, что организация должна принести свои извинения по поводу доставленных неудобств были отвергнуты некоторыми членами совета организации (из Арминко), которые посчитали, что вины ISOC AM в происшедшем нет.

--- ISOC с самого начала был чем–то вроде сходки провайдеров. К сожалению все попытки превратить его из общества провайдеров в общество интернет пользователей (как оно и должно быть) не увенчались успехом – провайдеры сгоняли свой персонал на общее собрание и выдвигались в совет. А провайдеру главное его бизнес. Они даже против бесчинств Арментел и Мин связи боялись протестовать ... куда уж им против гэбэ.
--- А ISOC АМ гнилая контора ... единственное, что меня там удерживает это то, что она может стать еще более гнилой. Есть пара тройка нормальных людей из 11 членов совета ... и все.
