Warranted Optimism.

For the last two days there was a woodpecker working on a dead branch in a tree in our backyard. The tra-ta-ta-ta-ta every 45 to 60 seconds was nice to hear. After 10 hours of that yesterday, I started to wonder how delicious those insects in dead tree limbs are. They must be worth their weight in gold to require such enthusiasm. When the woodpecker was back this morning, I got even more curious. But as I decided to pull out my telephoto lens and go and take a picture of it, the tra-ta-ta-ta-ta stopped. The woodpecker is now gone. I hope the grub was worth all the effort.
