Speaking of Lenin, here is a photograph of the day when the first McDonald's opened in the USSR, somewhere in Moscow. Even though it is brand spanking new, it looks run down. Everything looked run down in that country. Just look at the homo-soveticus people. I was one of them then. I sure am glad the USSR doesn't exist. A few fools might want it back but not me. Every time I think of it, I praise God that the country disappeared.
Sounds good, but didn't work out:

In a socialist society, people will have the possibility to realise their talents; "Socialism itself", Wilde writes, "will be of value simply because it will lead to individualism."
USSR wasn't a socialist country. It was State capitalism. All capital belonged to the State not the society aka people. Take an ordinary apartment (co-opertive apartment blocks were exceptions), the family living in it didnt own it, they were only registered in that address and paid monthly subsidized rent. If I am not mistaken something around 2-3 rubels/month. The same applies to factories and farms - Sovkhoz.
ReplyDeleteThe only exceptions were co-operatives and Kolkhoz (collective holdings). Kolkhozes later on were slowly transformed to Sovkozk (Soviet aka State holdings).
Strangely, the first taste of freedom for the Moscovites was a piece of engineered meat in an overprocessed bun.
