The crime rates for the first quarter in Armenia have increased by 57%. That's a major change. Mind you, the crime rates have been increasing in the country since March 1. While Armenia feels like a police state with all sorts of police littering the streets, they are not there to stop crime. They are there to suppress the freedom of speech of the opposition sympathizers.
When all your resources are wasted on denying basic human rights to a large chunk of your population, the criminals become very pleased.
I wonder if the crimes committed by the people in the government are part of the metrics. We know that a large percentage of the MP-s, bureaucrats and their families are involved both in white collar and blue collar crimes such as tax evasion, money laundering (this has declined lately due to the economic crisis), murders and what not. My guess is that these incidents are not reported but I could be wrong. The people in the SS regime are very cynical so they may register them for bragging purposes.

I doubt the police chiefs would include their crimes otherwise the number would exceed 100%.
ReplyDeletenazarian - u ascribe all kinds of causality in your post whenever convenient to your knee-jerk i-hate-the-govt arguments.
ReplyDeleteand i like HHSH-Haik's math too...more than 100%. indeed in the opposition kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man levon is king.
Actually this is the only good change since SS became president. Police started to really register crimes (which was not a case before). And let's not forget that the rate of detection of a crime has also increased.
ReplyDeleteit is good to know statistics but one doesn't need them to know how unsafe we will now in Armenia. Even in "curt ev mut" tariner there was nothing close to current situation...
ReplyDeleteyeah lets bring back the old days when 1/2 of armenia fled and the rest survived through personal heroism despite the most anti-armenian government led by LTP...

ReplyDeleteYou are so funny.
Just to disappoint you, I am not and never been a political party member and hence never adopted any party policy.
I've heard of a 7% increase in crime, but a 57% increase sounds incredible. Anon 3:27's explanation is the one that makes the most sense. And if that is not what is happening, then we should all run for the hills.
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether they have really started registering the crimes or there is an increase in crimes themselves. Based on what I have read in the papers, a lot of the crimes, especially the ones committed by the regime people and their friends and relatives, still go unreported.
ReplyDeleteI am also not sure of the rates of solving these crimes. My general feeling is that they find patsies or extract confessions through torture (a good old police tactic in Armenia since the early Soviet times).
