Մկների Ժողով

As predicted by Haykakan Jhamanak a few months ago, the speaker of the parliament, Tigran Torosian, is about to be tossed out. The new speaker is going to be Hovik Abrahamian, aka Mook (Mouse). Mr. Abrahamian is a long time backer of Robert Kocharian and until recently was the president's Chief of Staff (before that he was the Minister of Local Governance and the Deputy Prime Minister). He was recently 'elected' to the parliament.

When Mr. Mook's position becomes official, the National Assembly will be known as the Mkneri Jhoghov (Assembly of Mice) in reference to the popular tale by Khnko Aper.

  1. Although it will be presided by Muk, the National Assembly will remain Arnetneri Joxov :-)

  2. The next step probably is going to fire the prime minister and put RK in that post.

  3. This has to go somewhere, too good to be buried in the news roundup section of ArmeniaLiberty:

“Aravot” writes that hemorrhoids and diarrhea are some of the reasons that lawmakers cite for their absences from meetings in parliament.

--Guess they're making themselves sick, too, huh?

  4. I don't know if they are being honest or whether these are illnesses that no one will audit or verify whether it was true or not. Procedurally, there is a certain limit on the number of days one can be absent without disciplinary action. Hemorrhoids is as good of a reason as anything else.

It's certainly better than asking someone else register and cast votes for you (a widespread and well documented practice in the previous and current parliaments).

  5. Well the rule is that lawmakers (I believe) have to show to at least half of the votes, but very few actually follow it. The only MP who was ever disciplined for absenteeism was Vano.

Incidentally, the top 5 non-shows in descending order:

5.Samvel Lfik Alexanyan (missed 249 out of 292 votes)
    4. Gagik Dodi Tsarukyan (missed 268 out of 292 votes)
    3. Manvel Ghazaryan (missed 274 out of 292 votes)
2.Levon Sargsyan (missed 285 out of 292 votes)
    1. Sashik Sargsyan, Serjhik's brother (missed 286 out of 292 votes)

That's just great. In what other country on Earth does the president's lawmaker brother miss 98% of parliament sessions?

  6. Pigh has an interesting document signed by Mook. He is basically threatening to fire anyone who doesn't show up for a meeting with the presidential candidate.

The presidential candidate, in that case, was Levon Ter-Petrosian.

  7. Perhaps you should revise is bio: "Mr. Abrahamian is a long time backer of [whoever signs his check]." Probably "mouse" is a misnomer and "rat" is a bit more accurate...

  8. You are probably right - Mook is a mild word. Unfortunately, people like this are everywhere. Usually they get away with the change on top (whose asses they kiss). They very quickly adapt to the new boss and start kissing that new ass.

  9. ...which is why some of us were always marked "does not play well with others"....

  10. I think that just goes to underscore how misplaced all the anger directed at the current HHSh is. All the rats that were in HHSh and who essentially destroyed the movement have now defected to either the HHK or to serve as its spineless "opposition."

P.S.I'd be interested to see if pigh could publish similar commentary-free orders from Serjhik Sargsyan during his time of service as Levon's minister of defense, head of the state security dep't, minister of national security, and later minister of interior and national security.

  11. me, things like that will not be revealed until after the current regime is gone.

I was going to write that transparency (publication of 'official' orders like this) will be instrumental in keeping the government in check but they don't give a rat's behind about reputation or credibility. I guess as long as they are not indicted or made to see the consequences of their actions, they'll continue to do what they do.
