The Armenian government fined Armentel, the land line and internet access monopoly in the country, today. The fine was $1 million and the alleged misdeed was a violation of anti-trust regulations with their policies towards the ISP-s in the country.
One million dollars is an eye popping amount in Armenia. It looks like there is a need to fill the coffers. It costs a lot of money to persecute the opposition.

This is great news. It is good to see continued clean up of abuse of the system.
ReplyDeleteI hope the government fines other perpetrators of corporate abuse too.
can government fine themselves?
ReplyDeleteIt's a good question. I highly doubt that the different arms of the government can fine each other. But I cannot be sure without reading the appropriate law in Armenia and looking for case history.
